Veterans For Diversity was founded in June of 2008. We started out as a living room and website organization forming an LLC that  same year. With limited cash and starting our research to gather information about what was available at the VA we managed to aquire an office at the LGBT Center in Milwaukee, WI.

Our vision was to become a national organization that would eventually have outlets in each state. This is coming about slowly with one regional office in Dallas, Texas. In 2010 we dissolved our LLC and incorporated under the laws of the state of Wisconsin and applied for our 501(c)3 status as a non-profit organization. We received our status in April of 2011 from the IRS as a  public charitable organization.

Some programs we currently have (see services for complete list):

Women Veterans Health Clinic - We hold a clinic once a year to supply basic services to women veterans who are afraid to use the VA, women veterans who aren't eligible for VA benefits due to military status. This clinic is usually held in the first quarter of each year.

Women Veterans Support Group - A Bi weekly support group usually heldon the second and fourth Thursdays of the month and open to all women veterans. Support group is facilitated by a licensed therapist, who donates her time because of lack of funding.

Case Study - We are conducting an anonymous case study of why some veterans shy away from using the VA. The study is to gather information on abuses or fears. This information is used to develop articles on subjects that may correct situations or eliminate fears. Also, concerns on abuses witnessed are sent to the VA so they can adjust policies or make corrections within the administration.

LGBT War Memorial - We have started an LGBT virtual war memorial to collect the names of LGBT veterans who have served their country and paid the ultimate price and/or are missing in action. The hopes are that eventually to have enough names to solicit a national memorial.

Color Guard - We had a color guard for 2011 and will be recruiting for the 2012 season.

Cyber Center - Computers loaded with all the latest software veterans can use for resumes and job searches.

Anti-Violence Program - We work in conjunction with the LGBT Center of Milwaukee placing our emphasis on Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and Military Sexual Trauma.

Women's Health Program - We work in conjunction with the LGBT Center of Milwaukee placing our emphasis on womens health to include annual breast exams based on income and rewards for having one.
